My dear student, let us be absolutely clear about the purpose of this institution and this classroom. You are here to engage with the thoughts, theories, and histories of humanity, not to have your personal, political, or lifestyle choices validated or sermonized by me.

The Role of the Educator

I am a researcher and an educator lecturing on complex, often uncomfortable ideas. I am not a preacher tailoring a moral message to suit your comfort level. Intellectual rigor requires confronting ideas that disagree with your worldview, not shutting them down or demanding they be removed.

The Directive: Intellectual Accountability

If you are struggling with the material, I expect you to apply your intellectual faculties to analyze why that is, rather than picking a fight with the lecturer. My role is to challenge you, not to coddle you.

• Shut up and learn: Take the time to master the subject matter before passing judgment.
• Analyze the content: Critically engage with the material provided.
• Find your own path: Upon completion of this education, it is up to you to decide what to do with the knowledge gained.
